You know, I'm not saying what USC did was right, but in that rivalry, UCLA should've just let the clock run out, not call a timeout. They lost, they needed to accept it. But they didn't, so Pete Carroll was like "ok, you don't want it to be over, we'll end it."
The onus of class fell on UCLA's shoulders that night. Throwing a timeout with 60 seconds to go, USC has the ball and four downs - all they had to do was take a knee for two downs. But Neuheisel had to throw a timeout. Game over dude. Take your respectable 14 point loss. But no, he had to throw a timeout and signal to the Trojans, they still wanted to play. They deserved that touchdown thrown on them. It could have been against any team and they would Ā have deserved it just the same. UCLA has shown class on other occasions, but not this time. I felt bad for the Bruin players, but their coach let them down.
UCLA had all of its timeouts remaining and was trying to get the ball back when they called their first one after USC's first kneel down. Obviously, UCLA didn't think the game was over since they called a TO. And if they want to keep playing then USC has every right to keep pounding them. I see nothing wrong with the way USC reacted to the timeout.
I was there, Neuheisel was up to his usual, and yes, this was in response. I don't see people complaining when Oregon, LSU, ND, etc score late in the game. Some of the comments on here I find hysterical! You watch a 5 minute clip and think you know what's going on.
Neuheisel chose to use his timeouts after USC was taking a knee at the end of the game.Ā He got just what he deserved. If he ever coaches again, I bet he won't use his timeouts in a similar situation.Ā A lesson learned..
For those saying that this was unsportsmen like need to grow up. Yes it was unsportsmen like for UCLA. UCLA called a time out when there down two touchdowns at 58 secs. USC tried to do the classy thing. It was like a slap in there face. USC was like. 'alright fine. you want to call a time out. we will keep playing.' i support that, It was real classness by UCLA
He didn't complain about Stanford, he said (correctly) "they can do whatever they want." If you can't take the heat - don't call a time out with less than a minute left in the game. Fight On!
That was rude of USC to taunt UCLA like that anyway, and to rub it in their faces that they got beat so badly is just pompous and asinine. Running the score up like that with less than a minute left is just wrong, and shows how unsportsman like you are. I hope they're happy. When they lose a game that badly, we'll see how happy they are.
Pete Carroll is a hypocrite. He runs up the score on other teams and its fair game but Jim Harbaugh and Stanford runs it up on him and he can't take it. Don't get me wrong he's a good coach, but if you run up the score on teams then don't complain when it happens to you.
Difference between UCLA and u$c: CLASS. With the taunting and acts of rubbing in the loss, this video pretty much sums it up.
Worry about all the cheating going on with the u$c footballĀ program before talking down to UCLA. Not onlyĀ do u$c fans vandalize theĀ UCLA campus on a regular basis, theyĀ STOLEĀ the Victory Bell and "made it into a tradition."Ā
u$c fans, even if you beat us in football during certain years, just remember this:Ā We beat you in academic rankingsĀ EVERY YEAR. (We also have moreĀ total collegiate sportsĀ national championships)
